Interconnected smoke alarms for houses

The Building System Performance branch of MBIE has sponsored access to view and print a single downloadable PDF copy of this standard at no charge. Standards New Zealand also offers this standard to be purchased as Hard Copy or Online Library subscription.

Smoke alarms save lives. They are mandatory in residential tenancies and can be important for obtaining a building consent when building or altering a house or small apartment. This standard includes important information about the placement of smoke alarms, and their ability to be heard. It provides information about installing, commissioning and maintaining externally powered interconnected smoke alarms, a more robust warning system than battery-powered smoke alarms. Acceptable Solution F7/AS1 provides information on using this standard to help demonstrate Building Code compliance, along with Acceptable Solutions C/AS1 and C/AS2.
