AS/NZS 4276.3.2:2003

Current Date published:

Water microbiology - Method 3: Heterotrophic colony count methods - Method 3.2: Plate count of water containing biocides

This joint standard was developed in conjunction with Standards Australia (SA) who advised us that the standard was reviewed and resulted in a new Australian (AS) only standard AS 4276.3:2021. However this edition will remain current within New Zealand. For the most up to date Australian standards, visit www.standards.org.au.

This Standard sets out a method for estimating the number of colony-forming units (CFUs) in water using a pour plate technique and R2A Agar. For waters which may contain growth-inhibiting additives which have not been neutralized, plate counts starting with the 1:100 dilution are recommended in order to eliminate interference with counts. This increases the lower detection limit of the method to 100 cfu/mL. This limit is generally adequate for applications such as the monitoring of cooling tower water.
